The Magnificat (Song of Mary)
The Magnificat also known as the Song of Mary is a canticle frequently recited liturgically in Christian church services. The text of the canticle is taken directly from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46-55) where it is spoken by the Virgin Mary upon the occasion of her Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. In the narrative, after Mary greets Elizabeth, who is pregnant with the future John the Baptist, the child moves within Elizabeth’s womb. When Elizabeth praises Mary for her faith, Mary sings the Magnificat in response. This is a beautiful thanksgiving prayer for praising and glorifying our Lord, God.
My soul glorifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things,
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant,
remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons for ever.
Prayer to the Holy Family
Here is a prayer to the most Holy Family of Nazareth. All families should pray to the Holy Family for blessings and should strive to live a Holy Life.
Jesus, Mary and Joesph, bless us and grant us the grace to love the Church as we ought, above ever other thing, and always to show forth our love by deeds.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, bless us and grant us the grace to profess openly as we ought the faith given to us in Baptism, without fear or human respect.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, bless us and grant us the grace to share in the defense and propagation of the Faith whether by word or by the sacrifice of our fortunes and our lives.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, bless us and grant us the grace to love one another, and to live together in perfect harmony of thought, will and action, under the rule and guidance of our pastors.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, bless us and grant us the grace to conform our lives to the precepts of God and of the Church, so as to live always in that charity which they set forth.
Amen
Prayer to One’s Patron Saint
Here is a prayer to one’s own Patron Saint – the saint after which you were named at the time of Baptism.
Saint ………. (Say the Name of your Saint), at baptism, my parents gave me that name which was also yours. You are my companion and heavenly protector. You have borne this name honourably before God and men.
May your example teach me to do the will of God, to be faithful to Christ, to go my way with the attitude and conduct of a committed Christian so that I may one day share with you the rewarding joy of having followed Christ faithfully. Amen
Prayer to Mary, Queen of Apostles
Most glorious Virgin, Queen of the Apostles, I, the most unworthy of all your servants, beseech you to be my guide here on earth. Obtain for me through your Son Jesus, the salvation of my soul and the means necessary to obtain it through Christ our Lord. Amen
Prayer for Deceased Relatives and Friends
Here is a short prayer for all our near and dear ones who have gone for Eternal Rest. This short prayer can be used daily to remember all souls who have faithfully departed from this world.
Almighty Father, source of forgiveness and salvation, grant that our relatives and friends who have passed from this life may, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of all the saints, come to share your Eternal happiness through Christ our Lord. Amen
Eternal Rest grant to then, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
May the Lord bless us, may he keep us from evil and bring us to life everlasting. Amen.
Pro Life Prayer
Here is a daily prayer to end abortion. Every unborn child is God’s Precious gift and we have no right to end a human life. Let’s pray for all those who struggle through abortion and who want to end their unborn babies.
Father in heaven, we thank you for the precious gift of human life to our first parents, Adam and Eve, and to every human being down the centuries till today.
In your Divine Providence, you have made us your collaborators in the transmission of this gift and in preserving it from the moment it is conceived till it is transformed into life eternal.
We beg pardon for those who suffocate human life in unborn babies, who eliminate it violently with enmity and hatred, or who suppress it prematurely in the elderly and the terminally ill.
Grant us so to cherish human life that we shall always respect and defend it, especially within the sacred shrine of the family where it is born and nurtured. We promise to use the gift of life with gratitude and care at all times and in every place.
We make this prayer to You, our loving Father, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Life, in the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life, and the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, who came that we may have life in abundance. Amen
Blessings for a Catholic Home
May God’s blessing descend abundantly upon this house and upon all who dwell in it. May the grace of the Holy Spirit sanctify everyone.
May The Name in which all is safe, the sweet and Most Holy Name of Jesus, grant happiness and blessing in full measure to this house, and everything within it.
May the Most Blessed Virgin Mother of God, Mary, with motherly concern, look after all, and preserve all from any bodily or spiritual evil.
May the powerful prayers of the worthy St. Joseph obtain a prosperous issue to our undertakings and abundant merit from all our sufferings.
May the holy guardian angels protect all in this house from persecutions of the devil, and one day lead us to our heavenly fatherland.
May the blessing of Almighty God, The + Father, The + Son and the + Holy Spirit descend upon us and remain with us always.
Ame.
Novena to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Roman Catholic Church celebrates Feast of the Immaculate Conception as belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is celebrated on 8th December, nine months before the Nativity of Mary, which is celebrated on 8th September. It is the patronal feast day of the United States. Here is a Novena Prayer to the immaculate Virgin.
O most pure and immaculate Virgin, you are the most privileged of all creatures, you are the only one amongst the children of our first parents who was never for an instant an enemy of your Creator.
You are the most perfect image of the holiness of God, after your Son Jesus. You were conceived without sin. Remember dear mother, you were preserved by God’s extraordinary intervention from the shadow of sin, not only that you might become the worthy mother of God, but also the spiritual mother of men, their refuge and their advocate.
We are filled with confidence in your never failing intercession. With this confidence, we humbly implore that you will obtain for us the graces we ask in this Novena (Mention your Petitions hear….)
You know, O most Immaculate Mother, how often our hearts are sacred sanctuaries of God; obtain for us that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone and that purity of intention which will make us seek his well alone.
Obtain for us these other precious gifts also, the gifts of prayer and the gift of using this world like pilgrims who have no lasting city here, but whose home is where you are with the angels and saints and where you, most beloved mother, are waiting for us, your beloved children.
L. O Mary conceived without sin.
P. Pray for us who have recourse to you,
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to Holy Spirit. (Say this as Thanksgiving to the blessed Trinity for the prerogatives bestowed on blessed Virgin Mary, Our Mary).
Prayer to Our Lady
Here is a powerful prayer to Mother Mary, our heavenly Mother.
O most Holy Mary, virgin mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, queen of the universe, refuge of sinners, I greet you. Mine is the greeting of a servant who venerates you; it is even more; it is the greeting of your son/daughter who has learned to love you.
I thank you for all those, my parents and others, who told me about you and taught me to venerate you and to love you. Bless them for what they have done for me by giving you as my mother and my dearest friend.
With the confidence in you, which they have implanted in me by their example, I come to ask many blessings both for myself and for others. I ask…….. (Make your petitions hear. Take time over them. Do not be in a hurry. Avoid instant petitions. Speak to Mother Mary humbly as to your Heavenly Mother.)
Heavenly Mother, I know you will commend all my petitions to Jesus as you did at Cana. I am assured that Jesus at your request will do the best for me. He will even at your request go beyond my petition. But one more blessing I ask to give me is a heart like yours -
A heart full of love,
A heart that radiates goodwill,
A heart that is not hardened or embittered,
A heart that while living in the flesh is not ruled by the flesh,
A heart that forgets its wounds and reaches out in pardon,
A heart that has compassion and that never condemns,
A heart that is meek and humble like the heart of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen
