The practice of praying The Three Hail Marys was revealed to St. Melchtilde with the promise of a good death, if she was faithful to it every day. It is a traditional Roman Catholic devotional practice to recite 3 Hail Marys in the morning as petition for purity and other virtues.
While Saint Gertrude the Great sang the Hail Mary, at the Matins of the Annunciation, she suddenly saw spring out from the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, three bright flames which penetrated the Heart of the Holy Virgin. Then she heard the following words: “After the Power of the Father, The Wisdom of the Son and the merciful Tenderness of the Holy Spirit, nothing approaches the Power, Wisdom and the merciful Tenderness of Mary.”
This beautiful devotion has been a part of my daily Morning Prayer. I pray 3 Hail Marys for myself. Then I go onto pray 3 Hail Marys for my each of my family members.
It is also recommended to pray 3 Hail Marys before going to bed, following the examination of Conscience.
Train your children to acquire the habit of saying three Hail Marys in the morning and evening.
Here is a suggested way to recite 3 Hail Marys:
O Mary, by thy pure and Immaculate Conception, make my body pure and my soul holy.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
O my Mother, preserve me this day from mortal sin.
