For many years, I didn’t even know the date I was baptized into the Catholic Church. Neither did I have my baptism candle with me nor did I know where it was. We used to celebrate our birthdays every year but somehow conveniently forgot our baptism anniversaries. This year, I managed to find our Baptism dates from our Baptism Certificates safely tucked away and we have started celebrating the anniversaries of our baptism. It is never late to begin a tradition in your family. Baptism Anniversaries are special because it is a reminder of the day you were adopted into God’s family. I think it is more important than the day you were born into this world because without Baptism, you wouldn’t have eternal life. It should be celebrated as a joyful feast day. Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian Life.
Here is a Prayer to one’s Patron Saint which can be recited on one’s Baptismal anniversary.
Great St. (Name of your Patron Saint), who at my Baptism was chosen as my guardian and under whose patronage I became an adopted child of God and solemnly renounced Satan, his works and allurements, assist me by the thy powerful intercession in the fulfillment of these sacred promises. Help me to love God above all things and always to live in the state of grace. Finally, obtain for me the grace of a happy death, so that thou mayest welcome me into Heaven for all eternity. Amen.
