Prayer before a Crucifix

Print Friendly

The Prayer before the Crucifix is a Roman Catholic prayer to Jesus which is said while kneeling before a crucifix. It is often said by Roman Catholics after Communion or after Mass.

Look down on me, good and gentle Jesus,
while before Your face I humbly kneel and,
with burning soul, pray and beseech You
to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments
of faith, hope and charity;
true contrition for my sins,
and a firm purpose of amendment.

Make my soul strong in faith, hope and love.

Make me truly sorry for my sins so that I will never sin again.

I am sad when I see the wounds on your hands and feet,

and think of the words of your prophet David:

“They have pierced my hands and feet, they have hurt all my bones.”

Amen.
