Our Lady of Good Counsel (Mater Boni Consilii) is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary after a miraculous image from the fifteenth century. Many Popes and saints have had strong devotions to Our Lady of Good Counsel. Our Mother of Good Counsel has been called the Madonna of the Popes. In 1753, Pope Benedict XIV established the Pious Union of Our Lady of Good Counsel to promote devotion to Mary under this title. Pope Leo XIII added the title ‘Mother of Good Counsel’ to the Litany of Loreto. The Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel is celebrated on April 26th.
O Most Glorious Virgin, chosen from among all others by an eternal decree to be the Mother of the Eternal Word, the Treasury of Divine Graces and the Refuge of Sinners, I, thy most unworthy servant, have recourse to thee, that thou mayest be my tender guide and counsellor in this valley of tears. Through the Precious Blood of thy Son, obtain for me the pardon of my sins, the salvation of my soul, and all things necessary to attain them. Grant also that Holy Church may triumph over her enemies and that the Kingdom of Jesus Christ well soon be extended over the whole earth, I ask this through thy intercession. Amen.
