Most merciful Jesus, the consolation and Salvation of all who put their trust in Thee, we humbly beseech Thee, by Thy most bitter Passion, grant recovery of health to Thy servant (Name), provided this be for his (her) soul’s welfare, that with us he (she) may praise and magnify Thy holy name. But if it be Thy holy will to call him (her) out of this world straighten him (her) in his (her) last hour. Grant him (her) a peaceful death and bring him (her) to life everlasting. Amen.

Almighty and merciful God, look favorably upon my prayer and free my heart from temptation to evil thoughts, that I may deserve to be accounted a worthy dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Shed upon my heart the brightness of Thy grace, that I may ever think thoughts worthy of Thy Divine Majesty and that are pleasing to Thee, and ever sincerely love Thee, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Glorious St. Raphael, Patron and Lover of the Young, I call upon thee and plead with thee for thy help. In all confidence I open my heart to thee, to beg thy guidance and assistance in the important task of planning my future. Obtain for me through thy intercession the light of God’s grace, so that I may decide wisely concerning the person who is to be my partner through life. O Angel of Happy Meetings, lead us by the hand to find each other. May all our movements be guided by thy light and transfigured by thy joy. As thou didst lead the young Tobias to Sara and opened up for him a new life of happiness with her in holy marriage, lead me to such a one whom in thine angelic wisdom thou dost judge best suited to be united with me in marriage.
St. Raphael, loving patron of those seeking a marriage partner, help me in this supreme decision of my life. Find for me as a helpmate in life that person whose character will reflect the traits of Jesus and Mary. May he(she) be upright, loyal, pure, sincere and noble, so that with united efforts and with chaste and unselfish love, we both may strive to perfect ourselves in soul and body, as well as the children it may please God to entrust to our care.
St. Raphael, Angel of chaste courtship, bless our friendship and our love, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely that our future home may ever be most like the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Offer thy prayers to God for both of us and obtain the blessing of God upon our marriage, as thou wert the herald of blessing for the marriage of Tobias and Sara.
St. Raphael, friend of the young, be thou my friend, for I shall always be thine. I desire to ever invoke thee in my needs. To thy special care I entrust the decision I am to make as to my future wife (husband). Direct me to the person with whom I can best cooperate in doing God’s Holy Will, with whom I can live in peace, love and harmony in this life and attain eternal joy in the next. Amen.
God made us “to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world and to be happy with Him forever in the next, [in Heaven].” Hence, Christians should always strive to live according to the Will of God. In whatever we do, let us first seek His Will. We can do this through prayer, discernment and spiritual direction. Whether it be discerning your vocation or choosing your spouse or choosing your career, let us always strive to know what God wants of us. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to guide us. Here is a prayer seeking God’s help for choosing a state of life.
O Almighty God, whose wise and amiable providence watches over every human event, be Thou my light and my counsel in all my undertakings, particularly in the choice of a state of life. I know that on this important step my sanctification and salvation in great measure depend. I know that I am incapable of discerning what may be best for me; therefore, I cast myself into Thy arms, beseeching Thee, to direct by Thy grace every moment and action of my life to the glorious end of my creation.
I renounce most sincerely every other wish than to fulfill Thy designs on my soul, whatever they may be, and I beseech Thee to grant me that grace which, by imbibing the true spirit of a Christian, will enable me to qualify myself for any state of life to which Thine adorable Providence may call me.
O my God, whenever it may become my duty to make a choice, do Thou be my Light and my Counsel, and mercifully make known to me the way wherein I should walk, for I have lifted up my soul to Thee. Preserve me from listening to the suggestions of my own self-love, or worldly prudence, in prejudice to Thy holy inspirations. Let Thy good Spirit lead me into the right way, and let Thine adorable providence place me, not where I may naturally feel inclined to go, but where all things may be most conducive to Thy glory and to the good of my soul.
Mary, mother of Good Counsel, Seat of Wisdom and Help of Christians, pray for me.
May is such a beautiful month. The whole month is dedicated to our Blessed Lady, Mother of God. The pious practice of honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary during the entire month of May has been especially recommended by many Popes.
Mary is our loving mother. Her maternal heart is full of love and mercy for her beloved children. She is always waiting for us to turn to her for her motherly guidance. She constantly presents all our prayers to her dear son, Jesus. Mary is known as the “Gate of Heaven“. We need Mary to guide us to heaven so that we may not lose our way by falling into sin.
Just like our Pastor reminded us, we need to pray the Rosary every single day during the month of May. If you cannot pray the entire rosary with dedication, pray at least one decade with all your heart, and if a decade is not possible, recite at least one Hail Mary with complete devotion.
When we pray the Hail Mary, we ask our heavenly mother to intercede for us now and at the hour of our death. Yes, we need her powerful intercession during that fearful hour when all Hell itself will rise against us to grab our soul. Our merciful mother will help us during that fateful hour. We only need to pray to her without ceasing.
Some devotions to Mother Mary for the Month of May
- Recite the Regina Coeli (during the Paschal Season) or Angelus (other days of the year) daily.
- Recite the Rosary daily as a family. Remember to meditate on each mystery and to pray with all your heart and mind.
- Recite the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary also known as the Litany of Loreto.
- Attend Mass on First Saturday of the month or if not possible, on any other Saturday to honor our Mother.
- Celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13th. You can pray a Novena to Our Lady of Fatima in preparation for her Feast.
- Get Enrolled in The Brown Scapular.
- Visit a Marian Shrine as a pilgrimage.
- Prepare a Marian Altar in your home for the “Queen of May” with pictures/statues of Mother Mary and many flowers.
- Celebrate May Crowning at your church or in your house by crowning a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a crown of flowers.
- Celebrate the Feast of the Visitation on May 31st. Contemplate Mary’s ardent charity as she hurried to visit her cousin Elizabeth.
Our Lady of Fatima is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the year 1917, Our Lady appeared to 3 shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal. The three children were Lucia Santos, Blessed Jacinta Marto and Blessed Francisco Marto. This Marian Apparition was approved by the Holy See in 1930. Today, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal is a popular Marian Pilgrimage site. Around 4 million pilgrims visit the Basilica every year. The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated on May 13th. Here is a novena to Our Lady of Fatima in preparation for her feast. Let us pray to Our Lady for the conversion of sinners and for all our intentions.
Most Holy Virgin, who deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary,
inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion,
so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it,
we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners,
the conversion of Russia and this favor which I so earnestly seek,
(Mention your Request)
which I ask of thee in this novena, for the greater Glory of God,
for thine own honor and for the good of all people.
