The Luminous Mysteries (Mysteries of Light)

March 10, 2010

The Luminous Mysteries are prayed on Thursdays. These mysteries focus on the public ministry of Jesus Christ.

After reciting each mystery, say 1 ‘Our Father’ and 10 ‘Hail Mary’, followed my ‘Glory be’ and Fatima Prayer.

You can learn more about Praying the Rosary here.

1. The Baptism of Jesus

Let us contemplate in this mystery the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, the descending of the Holy Spirit upon him and the Father’s voice saying, “This is my beloved Son, in him I am well pleased”.

Lord Jesus, anoint us with the Holy Spirit so that we may be strengthened and guided in our spiritual journey to Heaven.

2.  The Wedding Feast at Cana

Let us contemplate in this mystery the presence of Mary and Jesus in the Wedding Feast at Cana and how Jesus through the intercession of Mary, performed his first miracle and changed water into wine.

Thank you Lord Jesus for giving us your Blessed Mother to be our dear Mother and intercessor.

3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

Let us contemplate in this mystery how Jesus proclaimed the coming of God’s Kingdom, and his invitation to repent over our sins, and our need to grow in faith.

Lord Jesus, as we contemplate your Eternal Word, give us the grace to be witnesses of your Kingdom.

4. The Transfiguration

Let us contemplate in this mystery the Transfiguration of Jesus at Mount Tabor. A voice from heaven said, ” This is my son, the chosen one; listen to him”.

Lord Jesus, give us all a deeper personal experience of You – to see You, to hear Your Voice, to feel Your presence and thus to be made strong for the days to come.

5. The Institution of the Eucharist

Let us contemplate in this mystery the institution of the Holy Eucharist by Jesus at the Last Supper; and thus Jesus Shared with us his Body and Blood as food and drink for us in our spiritual journey to Heaven.

Jesus, my life and my strength, You did not keep back anything from me but completely gave yourself for the love of me. Help me also to give myself in the service of others.
